Feb 2010 e-Newsletter
I think this is the first newsletter for 2010, so Happy New Year.
One administrative note. I’m going going to be moving this newsletter over to this website. For you, that means if you want to continue to read about the latest news, just checkout this website whenever you’re wondering what is going on. This will allow me to archive all the newsletters, and have all my information available in one spot for all of you. On to the news…
February marks the official 1 year anniversary for CrossFit California City, and the 2 year point since the Guere’s and Myers’ started CrossFitting together in the garage. It’s been a great first year as an affiliate and a challenging 2 years CrossFitting. Nagging injuries, surgeries and life in general have made it “fun” to keep focus on the workouts. But, we’re still going, and that’s all that matters.
I’ve enjoyed training everyone more than I can say. We’ve seen a few muscle ups, plenty of pullups, and PRs everywhere. We’ve had athlete’s come and move on, and I’ve got an entire soccer team doing CrossFit. This summer I’ll be hosting my second annual Teen Summer Boot Camp. (info coming in the next month or so, start saving your pennies). My focus on kid/teen training has brought the most joy. I believe the biggest impact CrossFit can have is in it’s kids programs. I’ve spent a lot of time with the folks at CrossFit Kids HQ and plan to continue that relationship. To that end, I’ll be attending the HUGE Arnold Classic Fitness Expo in Columbus, OH next month, where CrossFit and CrossFit Kids will be storming in for our big debut. The Arnold is the largest fitness expo and competition in the world, and we’re proud to be involved.
This spring and summer could bring changes to our little garage box. I’m beginning to investigate the possibility of moving into a dedicated building in Cal City. However, the price and facility have to be right, and I won’t jump just for the sake of jumping. Keep your eyes peeled for a sign somewhere in town sooner or later.
March also will bring the official start of the 2010 CrossFit Games season, with sectionals occurring all around the world, feeder events for regional qualifiers for the 2010 CrossFit Games. I will be a judge at the SoCal sectional down at UCLA, and a few of our members are also volunteering to help out. If you’ve never witnessed CrossFit competition for yourself, this will be a great opportunity. There is a spectator fee, so head over to the Games site (http://games.crossfit.com) and find the sectional and register if you’re interested.
In July, we’ll be taking a convoy of folks up to Aromas, CA for the CrossFit Games. It is the pinnacle of our sport, the competition to end all fitness competitions. The winners of these games have a legitimate claim to the title of “Fittest Man and Woman on the Planet”. If you doubt that claim, checkout the hours and hours of video on the Games site and see if your opinion changes.
I think that’s all the reflection and reporting I have for one day. Remember, this newsletter (starting with this issue) will be moving to the “e-newsletter” link on www.crossfitcalcity.com. See you there!
3…2…1….. GO!
